Pakistan can play central role in improving global energy security Govt decision to expedite gas pipelines lauded Bypassing Pakistan for Iran gas costly option for India

(01 September 2015)

Pakistan can play a leading role in improving global energy situation as it neighbours two fastest developing huge energy-starved economies, a business leader said Tuesday.

Central Asian and Iranian gas can flow to India and Pakistan which is the cheapest route for the both, said President Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum (PBIF) and former provincial minister Mian Zahid Hussain.

In a statement issued here today, he said that 1800 km TAPI pipeline is a 10 billion dollar project which can transport 33 billion cubic meter gas per day while it will benefit over 1.5 billion people.

The pipeline would benefit a billion more if China start getting the natural gas to spur its economy, he said.

Mian Zahid Hussain said that natural gas from South Paras gas field of Iran will also improve energy situation through a 2775 km pipeline.

He said that India is considering to bypass Pakistan for Iran gas which is very costly option.

The veteran business leader said that work has been initiated on 3000 km road from Gwadar to Kasghar in China as part of economic corridor set to benefit three billion people.

He said that Iran is seriously considering to join the corridor which has resulted in sleepless nights for India policy makers who want to frustrate this project on any cost.

Mian Zahid said that government’s decision to expedite work on pipelines to ensure energy security is highly laudable. Which will beneficial a lot for Pakistan.
